DUPLE- University Diploma Portuguese Foreign Language 

The DUPLE (University Diploma Portuguese Foreign Language) corresponds to the European Framework of Common Reference for Languages, the Council of Europe level C2.
This exam level indicates a higher level of proficiency in Portuguese. The candidates are proficient in communicating in the language at workplace, study or everyday situations. 

This level has five sections:
  • Reading Comprehension 
  • Written Expression 
  • Structural competence 
  • Understanding the Oral 
  • Speaking 

Reading Comprehension

This part has two sections:
Section 1: Requires general understanding of the texts. 3 texts are given in this section.
Section 2: Requires a thorough understanding of the texts. Two or three texts are given in this section.
  • Duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes
This part indicates that Portuguese users are able to understand text of any kind. 

Written Expression

This part consists of two sections:
Section 1: Requires writing a commentary in about 250-280 words. Two topics would be given for the same.
Section 2: Requires producing one or two texts of about 250-280 words. The text must be related to educational, professional or public domain.
  • Duration: 1 hour and 45 minutes
This part indicates that the Portuguese users are able to use the language in writing any type of texts in day-to-day, workplace and study communicative situations. They are able to take notes, write reports or letters, make set of instructions, etc.

Structural Competence

This part requires the candidates to complete or organize the text and transform the sentence.
  • Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
This part requires the candidate to respond in an apt way to the items which evaluates their language skills and knowledge- the usage of grammar, vocabulary, textual structure, equivalence between verbal constructions, etc. 

Understanding the Oral

This part includes an extract from a presentation, conference or radio show with no dialogues. Candidates are required to listen to it and answer questions accordingly.
  • Duration: 40 minutes
This part indicates that the Portuguese users are able to understand the television and radio program content; follow presentations, and understand the text presented by someone who has pronunciation or rhythm of speech different from those regarded as more standardized registers.

They are able to understand the language encountered in the day-to-day, workplace and study situations. 

Speaking/Utterance

This part of DUPLE indicates that the Portuguese users are able to communicate in day-to-day situations, at workplace and study. They are able to interact effortlessly in the language, express their opinion effectively and easily, give explanation, interact with colleagues or clients, take part in seminars, orientation programs and meetings, talk over phone and its is most successful if the topic and caller are known, give presentation, deal with questions appropriately and handle criticism . 

This part has three sections:
Section 1: This section includes a conversation between examiner and candidate, and questions about candidates are asked
Section 2: This section requires the candidate to express their views on the topic given.
Section 3: This section includes interaction between candidates who are planning an activity
  • Duration: 20 minutes with each candidate pair 

Scoring

Candidates who attain a score between 85% and 100% are classified as “Very Good
Candidates who attain a score between 70% and 84% are given the rating as “Good”
Candidates who attain a score between 55% and 69% are given the rating as “Enough”
